There are all kinds of questions, all over the internet on how to convert DIVX files to AVI or WMV files for use in Windows. What programs are available, what do they cost, etc.

I am going to show you a little secret that will save you tons of time.

Let's say you are on Stage6.com, which, if you didn't know, is one of the best places to find DIVX movie files. You watch a movie and want to put it on your computer or your Sansa. So you click on the download and you download the movie.

Then you find out you have something like 47538494.divx, saved on your computer and no way to play that video. When you click on it Windows doesn't know what to do.

So you start searching and downloading programs to convert the movie into something Wndows likes. You spend a lot of time and effort doing this.

Here is the secret...

Just open up Windows Explorer and find the file you have downloaded. I download all my DIVX files into my DIVX folder, so my downloaded file would look like this.

Then just change the name from 1925884.divx to the name of your video with the extension on AVI. In this case it would be Watermelon.avi

TaDa! You have now converted your DIVX video to an AVI windows file. Believe it or not, it is that simple.

You have to admit, that was pretty fast conversion.

You can now watch it in Mindows Media Player and if you want, load it into Windows Movie Maker.

With Windows Movie Maker you can then edit or ad transitions or photos to the video. You can also choose to save it as a WMV file if needed.
