Sex Sells. Looks sell. Talent can also be developed through training. Exploitation is indeed used here. Though I do agree that any woman should be able to express her sexuality... but for here, why is she using it? to make her album sell better...so she herself is being objectified... she turns herself into a commodity.
Wonder Girls- SO Hot
Categories: My Music & Other Media Music
A friend recently asked me what I thought of Wonder Girls. I didn't know anything about them at the time, but when I looked them up I could see why my friend had known I would be intrigued; they are a 5-girl pop group from Korea. They are also produced my JYP (Park Yin-Young), the mastermind behind several K-Pop stars, including hearthrob "Rain" (look him up; he's, like, so dream.
They're video is below, with English subs. Drink 'em in before we discuss:
I remember, a few years back, when Asian-American comedienne Margaret Cho criticized Gwen Stefani's entrouage of Japanese "Harajuku Girls", calling it a "minstrel show" that promoted negative stereotypes of Asian women as "submissive". Well, I hate to point out the painfully obvious, but it appears that Wonder Girls are perpetuating this stereotype.
Now, I wouldn't say that JYP is exploiting these girls, except for the fact that two are under-age, and I truly believe that a woman has the right to oversexualize herself and if she wants to play Paris, that's absolutely fine. It's just a little disturbing to know that there are little girls looking up (or actually participating) in this kind of sexploitation.
Now, off my soapbox.... This is song is actually really cute and catchy. Plus, the girls are adorable and fashion-forward.
I mean, wasn't this kind of image that propelled the Spice Girls to fame in the 90's? (Doesn't help that this fab-five was also a developed as a result of the subjective auditioning process.)
What do you think?&
How about the song GEE by Girls Generation (SNSD)
What do you know about them?
So sweet got a toothache! No, really, it's super cute.
But I go back to what I said before; I think that svengali production companies like Wonder Girl's JYP and Girls' Generation's SM Entertainment are practically cultivating these girls in petrie dishes for mass entertainment. I mean, how many girls are in this group?
Yes, these girls are entertaining; yes, they are adorable; and yes, they have a subjective amount of talent. But consider the manipulation involved in these young peoples' lives, not to mention the ludicrous investments made in their futures (See "TIME" article here: http://www.time.com/time/asia/covers/1101020729/story.html)
It's all about the money... Dollars, Yen or Won (Korea) apparently the Kpop is selling because Jpop is not as marketable.
Thanks for the link to the Time piece. Very interesting!

Yes, But it's also about Sex, Anime and Video game sound tracks. If it wasn't for the Video game Final Fantasy. Final Fantasy has given a number of JPOP artists such as Angela Aki, Nami and others a good start.
Wish I was her piano. She could play me anytime............
If you love KPOP.
There is a section here with charts and KPOP music videos.
You wish to check it out.

Yes, Nice web site. I sent messages to Sling.com letting them know about this site. Since we know that lots of Asian people use Sling catchers and Boxes.
I just saw a YouTube video featuring Koran boy band DBSK (or TVQX), and they are, like, so cute:
Now, I'm a fangirl from way back, and I listened to Backstreet Boys and NSync and those guys, so when I saw DBSK I almost squealed. I watched an interview with them and they did some acapella Boyz II Men, which really impressed me because not only were they completely unplugged, but they were singing in a completely forgien language.
Plus, it doesn't hurt that they are all incredibly adorable (I know, these "boys" are all over 20). It's kind of embarassing watching these grown men prance around, but I'll be damned if 20 million shreiking Asian teenagers are wrong.
And, um... I'm gonna marry Max and if any of his 20 million fans have anything to say about it...
