Hi GX2,

I have a folder of files that I can't delete. The filee have odd character names.
The error message that I get when trying to delete this files is "Can't read from the source file or disk." This is only in one folder. I can delete from other folders.
Please help me...

I believe i have this problem as well. Please help us! (Sorry if i sound really desperate, but my dad will KILL me if he finds out.) LOL no pressure or anything. Thanks!
Sorry for double posting, but I have found a solution! Well, it worked for me!
Step One:
Open the 'Start' menu and there should be an icon labled 'Run...' click this, then type cmd into the
box and click ok. If you have no 'Run..' icon, then go Start> All Programs> Accessories> Command Prompt. Either of these methods will leave you with a black window with white text.
Step Two:
What you now need to type in is 'chkdsk g: /f' (without the quotation marks) and press enter.
Replace the 'g' with whatever drive your mp3 connects as, though g is the standard. This command will go though and erase any weird or corrupted files. Type exit and press enter to get out of the command prompt. this should get rid of all the bad files. If it does not, proceed to step three
Step Three:
Go to 'My Computer' and right click on the 'SANSA E250' and select format. Leave the settings as they are and click ok. Formating shouldn't take to long. This step will delete everything off your mp3 player, including all the bad files
Step Four:
After formating finishes you'll have to disconnect you mp3, turn it on, and let it do its thing,
then reconnect it before you can add more files.
Neither of these methods will harm your mp3 player so don't worry about using them.
Hopefully this helped you...
The chkdsk fixed the bad file issue. I still can delete the directory the housed the files, but I did not have to format.
Thanks
I had a similar problem with my e280. It only showed 74 files with RealPlayer on my PC but showed 400+ on the player display. I couldn't delete the files. It also showed that 2.5 Gig was used when nothing was used. This happened, I believe, becasue RealPlayer crashed in the middle of transfering files. It worked fine before that.
My solution was "Step Three." I had to format the e280 and everything seems fine.
RealPlayer keeps crashing, though. I have my owhn music and don't want to have to pay to use Raphsody. Any good, free, mp3 player software out there?
Wow! Great troubleshooting job, and thanks to everyone who posted their results. I'm sure this thread will help tons of folks who may have similar problems down the road. In fact, we may even publish almosthere13's steps in the articles section!
Of course, if you know any other cool Sansa tips and tricks that you've picked up along the way, share them with the Sansa Community!
Have fun!

Hel;p! My sansa e260 r keeps freezing up, could not do anything until battery drained so I used the warranty and recieved a new one. I am trying to set it up and two days later I am still trying. When I transfer the music using rhapsody everything looks fine when I view it all I see are numbers and unknow artist. Not every song but a vast majority. I also keeps reading errors when downloading, when I click on the errors it all comes up to Kellie Clarkson since u been gone. I have deleted it from my library still happens, re downloaded and it still happens. I have deleted everything on the player and started over and still shows up. I am old way to busy with the kids and work to be spending two hours sitting here. My subscription will be up by the time I figure this out. Help someone
Just wanted to say thank you! The chkdsk worked to clear off a file and eliminate some "bad track" errors.
I had an undeletable file also, so I followed step two (chkdsk) by almosthere13. It worked great, but when I restart my device it freezes while refreshing the database, so it never fully reboots. Thus my computer can no longer recognize it (to reformat it or to run the chkdsk again). Is there a way to make my computer recognize the device even though it is not turned on?
Nevermind, I found the recovery mode bootup.
Recovery mode: Turn the unit off, switch hold to on position, hold the "REC" button down and turn the unit on. Now the computer will recognize the device.
i have a little modification to this issue, mine after i unplugg it from a comp regardless if i put files on or not goes to a blank white screen, i have to remove the battery for it to work again. then whenevcer i turn it on no matter where it was when i turned it off it turns on and starts at the same point in the same song every time. now when i go to delete or add songs it gets stuck o nthe writing screen and freezes then i have to disconnect and then the white screen happens, chkdsk doesnt work for me it says that it cant access it, and when i go to format it stop after a while and then comes up with an error saying it cant format it. i have no idea what is going on
nope not yet its still doing it and recovery mode is a no go since my comp wont reconsize it

Did you try calling tech support?
Hmm you may need to roll the firmware back then reflash to the latest version. The issues you're describing sound like firmware problems
i'm sorry to bother you, i'm having the same problem that GX2 has, but mine isn't at an mp3, it's a C drive, i cant delete, rename, move nor change the file settings... this happened when i downloaded a song.. LoLx... funny yea,,, and when i do the chkdsk it writes the type of the file system is NTFS(wat does that means?)
cannot lock current drive and chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in used by another process.
i'd really appreciate it if anyone of you can help me figure out a way to do this.. thanks...
NTFS is just a different kind of format for a hard drive or memory device. The standard was FAT and FAT32 but those would only allow sector transfers of a maximum of 2gb at a time. NTFS supercedes the FAT partitions and offers more stability, diskspace utilization, meta data support and many other things.
Try right clicking on your C drive and going to properties then to Tools, then select the Check disk option. Check both boxes unless they're already checked and click ok. It should then tell you the disk is in use, but it can scan upon the next reboot. Click yes and you should be good to go
thanks bro... i'd appreciate it very much... i'll do it later... i'll give you a feedback when i'm done yea... thanks...
I had the same problem as AsreX and i did chkdsk and then rebooted it would start working and it went through step 1 fine but when it gets to step 2 it just stops at 0 percent and does not load, i waited for about 15 minutes and still nothing. not sure wats wrong and any help would be appreciated.
So when you reboot it does step 1 and then stalls at step 2? Do you have to reboot again?
Just checking but how long did you wait until you decided it was stalled out?
If still stuck you may have to check with your computer manufacturer's support people.
