I have a Sandisk Sansa m240 that works fine with a broken lcd. I want to be able to switch it to msc mode so i can at least use it as a flash drive. The problem is, i cant navigate the menu's because i cant see whats going on. It still plays songs fine and backlight still comes on, so i know it still works.

I was hoping a person who has a m240 or similar player can give step by step directions of what buttons i need to press to get me to the settings and switch it to msc mode, b/c i cant see anything on the screen. It is at the main screen where it plays music at the moment. So i know where i am all i need to know is how to navigate the menus on a broken lcd.

Please, can somebody nice help me. If i had another m240 i would be able to do it myself, but i dont and this is my brothers player before it broke, so i am unfarmiliar with the menus.

I have an m260 and I'm not sure how comparable these 2 are but here are the steps I would go through to access msc:

With the unit on, hit the on/off button to bring up the menu (which you can't see).  Hit the down arrow 3 times (Settings) then the Ok (center/round button).  Next hit the down arrow 8 times (USB on my unit) then Ok.  Down arrow one more time to select msc then hit Ok again.

Then maybe you could explain msc to me....

Hope this works for you.

That's pretty close. USB is 7 times down, not 8.  I verifed with my m240.

And I never got a manual with my m240 so I also have no idea what "msc" is either.

Thanks for the helpful commets!

Msc mode makes the mp3 player appear as a usb mass storage device, so i can use it on operating systems other than xp. I got it to work on win98se by using the driver for the older sandisk mp3 players back when win98 was supported and it worked.

Thanks to ur steps i now have a junk mp3 player, but a great 1gb flash drive!
