I hope this is not a double post - if it is...please excuse it.  I think I posted while I was still a pending member and didn't see it anywhere so I'm trying again.

Anyway - I am thinking of buying the Sansa 16GB and I've read some less than favorable reviews...something about a gap so it's really not a solid piece....anybody know anything about that?

Also..is is user friendly?  I want to be able to understand it's capibilities without bothering my husband everytime I want something new added. :-)  Does the FM feature work well?  Can this player handle "podcasts" ...is that just a term or do podcasts only work with IPODS?

And finally...I would be new to the subscription music sites.... any recommendations on which are the easiest to use?  I like a variety of music...from classical to Contemporary Christian.

Thanks to any and all feedback-

Deb

Hi Deb; Umm....lots of questions, will try a few; Laughing

I preordered my 16gb  VIEW after lots of research on "ipod" type devices.  I wanted as much "recording space" on a device as possible, but didnt want a hard drive.  Like most, I also wanted as much battery life as possible.  With all these requirements,  the SanDisk VIEW with it's 16g "all memory" device was exactly what I was looking for. So far I like it very much.  I have already moved much of my music collection from PC to it,  lots of pictures, and several video clips,  all with ease.

The  VIEW  came with coupon to purchase audible books at half price for 3 months.  I subscribed to see how I liked them.  I downloaded the books from Audible onto my computer and then to my VIEW.. now I seldom listen to my music since I am always listening to the audio books!  The first book I downloaded is over 21 hours  (Legacy of Ashes -- about our CIA).

Even if your not comuter literate,  SanDisk folks are there to support ya.  I had to call them since my  VIEW didnt have a detailed instruction book enclosed.  Mine was so new the folks at ScanDisk were suprised I had one already.  They also were unaware the insturctions were now on their web site and not in the box  (Im sure this saves ScanDisk money by not having to print the instructions).  As for audible, I also incountered a minor issue on the first download, but here again,  the audible folks are  absolutely great in helping anyway they can.  Even though I havent looked specifically for Christain books on their site, I feel almost positive they would have them.

The View is "in my opinion" a very nice size unit.  I was given an ipod nano, but didnt like it's square design and sold it to an office coworker for one of her kids.  In my humble opinion, and after a lot of research, I wouldnt hesitate in recommending the SanDisk View.  I have already bought a case for mine along with an AC/DC charger, and FM car stereo radio modulator (so you can play the device over the car radio speakers).

Anway, hope this info helps you in your quest.  1-10-08

Let me try and answer your questios.  GET IT, and use the include best buy media store, for music.  Buy the "Rhapsody to go" package ($14.99) it has every GENRE.  You also have these RHAPSODY cahnnels, that play like a radio station/satilite radio. meaning all music with no commercials.  If you like a song you can give it a positve rating and / or  press a button and add it to you library, if you hate a song you can give it a negative rating, and it will never play again.  Everyime you re-connect to your PC, it updates, and removes the negative songs, and adds more songs that are akin to the ones you gave positve ratings. Such as music by the same artist or from the same album. (NICE!)  The channels come in all GENRE's and you can even create you own. They have everyting from classical to Contemporary Christian.Cool

Yes, is does support PODCAST, buy you must make sure the GENRE is list as PODCAST before transfering it to the VIEW.  Wink

Yes, the FM works.  It signal strength is as strong as a boombox with digital tuning.  You also have the option to record songs directly from the radio, although it will be in wma. format. But a nice feature none the less....Wink

Regarding the gap/space, well there's to be a slight sepeation at the seem, next to the power button.  I know some gaps are bigger than other, although I don;t beleieve it causes any issues.  It seems to be more a concern of build quilty.  But after much research, it seems, Sandisk fill the case to capacity plus 1, thus the slight gap, due to a bulge.  THE ONLY ISSUE I CAN SEE WITH THIS IS DUST.  One issue that I have solve, with a silcion case.  Something which i always recommend to pretect your investment/toy.  Bumps and Bruise do not look nice. Cry

Hope this helps.

OH, I ALMOST FORGOT!! Another nice feature, I purchased a 30 pin to AV cable, and now I can watch movies on my VIEW on a TV (NICE) and I can view photos and slideshows on the TV also. Came in very handing went I went to Cali.  I was able to watch my full length movies, 30 sitcoms, and music videos when nothing else was on the hotel's 30 channel TV...

O by the way, I get me video content from Limewire...  The free version...

Hope this info helps....
