I just received a Sansa View for christmas and have downloaded music without a problem. I now would like to download video.....not sure what yet...podcasts, tv shows, or whatever is available, but do not know how to begin. Is there a site to go for instructions and what is available for downloading? I was hoping to download some tv shows..is that possible?

I would start here

http://www.sansacommunity.com/article/10537/How-to-Nab-and-Convert-Videos-fro...

But there are others ways to do it too, depending on the videos you are looking for. If you find a site that has videos you want, let us know and I am sure we can help.

Hi. Tried the software recommended in the link above (FreeFLVConverter) and it didn't work for me.  I could search UTube OK, but all actual conversion attempts failed.  I found another free alternative that did do a successful conversion ... SUPER. The GUI isn't as slick, it's slow, and expects some understanding of formats to use... but it worked and may even be better for the geek who wants more control of the output.

Mike, thanks for the tip. I had forgotten about SUPER.

Seems these days I have some many conversion tools that I tend to forget which one does what. Laughing

How to add (youtube) videos to your sansa view:  You are going to need to install some programs. All of which are free, but I recommend having an anti-virus on your computer. When I installed the one program, it didn't do anything, and everyone who uses the program didn't get a virus. But it's always good to be safe. I figured this out by looking at the forums. See, Sandisk.com set up a forum for each of the mp3 players they make. There people talk about the mp3 players, ask each other for help, etc. If you ever get stuck, this is a great place to look. Here is the link: http://forums.sandisk.com/sansa/board?board.id=view&page_of_message_id=1882

First thing you need to download is the Sansa Media Converter. here is the link: http://www.sandisk.com/driverdownload/download.asp?driverId=184
(if you want to add regular videos, like ones you own, just upload the video to the Sansa Media Converter, and UPLOAD!! easy as pie)
Next thing you need to download is the Any Video Converter. here is the link:
What you have to do is scroll ALLL THE WAYYY down to the bottom of the page and find the free version. It is the VERRY last one.
Got all that downloaded??? Cool! Now, the fun part! =]
Start by picking out the video you want. So go to YouTube and find the video. Got it??? Copy it.
Now the Any Video Converter has this neat little function where u can enter the URL right in and it will download it and everything. But to tell u the truth, that takes FOREVER!!! So heres what to do.
paste the URL of ur video into there and click DOWNLOAD
Make sure u SAVE the video to your DESKTOP
Got that downloaded?? GREAT! that saved in .flv format. u have to change that to .mp4 format. heres what u do:
u have to open up the Any Video Converter.
Click on:
Add video, then find ur video u just downloaded. on the FAR right u c where it says: DVD and there is a drop down menu?? click on Mobile Phone MPEG-4. then click on ENCODE.
let that do its thing. then click on OUTPUT FOLDER down in the lower lefthand corner. that will take u to where it put the video. now (assuming u have a PC)
plug in ur view: DONT OPEN ANYTHING YET!!
go to start: my computer then click on ur mp3 player. keep clicking on w/e shows up until it shows a bunch of folders and on of them shows VIDEO
click on that folder
now restore the folder so its like half size. do the same with that OUTPUT folder i talked about earlier.
so now u should be able to see both of them
this is the easiest part! just DRAG the video from the output folder into the VIDEO folder. and WOW!! your FINALLY done!!
Any more questions??
Here's the link to the manual:
There are also Sansa View Tutorial Videos!! Where?? Well my computer is being weird right now so I can't get to the site to get u the link. But if you go to www.sandisk.com/sansa and then go to sansa view and go to products i think it is. u should see tutorials. let me know if u dont find it. i could probably get to it tomorrow.

AshMarie093,

Wow! Great tip!

I am checking out Any Video Converter as I type. This program could help me in all kinds of conversions I need,

But, do you use Firefox? I love the Download Helper plugin you can use with Firefox. Check it out if you get the chance!

As stated above you can use SMC (Sansa Media Converter) or Any-video-converter (free) (well both are free... but anywho) If you're wanting to download youtube or streaming vids in general, i recommend Real Player, it has a built in stream downloader that will put the vid into flv (anything u see playing on the screen video stream wise can be downloaded). I've used it for countless streams.
Then simply open up AVC and convert the vid to an Mp4 (specs below):

Output file type: Mp4
Resolution: 320x240
Video Bitrate: 384 (or close to that.. doing this by memory) or 512
Audio Bitrate: 128 or 192kbps
Audio Sample rate: 44100

Dude, that is a great tip! I have avoided Real Player because of all the overhead it ads to the setup. But if it can do that it is well worth it!

yup, its got a feature for downloading streams, whenever you hover your mouse above the playing video (or paused it just has to start streaming at some point), you'll see Download Now in the upper right of the vid, click that and it'll start ripping the stream.

Dude, that is sweet!
Too bad it has to be converted though.
