I would guess there is a problem withthe contacts inside the player. Without the receipt, I don't know what you would be able to do regarding the warranty or replacement.
Can you find out if the person that gave it to yu has the receipt?
i have a sansa e260 and one of the earphones will not play but if i wiggle the jack around and leave it halfway out of the player they both work. i have tried a new pair and i get the same problem. is there something wrong with the mp3 player? i got it as a christmas gift and do not have a receipt for it so what should i do? thanks for any help.

they do not have a receipt i already asked. they said it was bought at radio shack. thanks for ur help, is there anywhere i could send it to have it fixed?
Contact Radio Shack. They may have the purchasers name or phone number on file and can find the receipt for you.
First, turn off the custom EQ.
If that doesnt work, try another pair of headphones.
If you still have the problem (and both pairs of headphones work elsewhere) then it's the female jack in the player that has gone bad (the hole where you put the headphone plug).
Contact SanDisk or the place of purchase (Pop) for a Return Merchendice Authorization (RMA). If RMA is not an option (because its refurbished) you can try Cptnodegard's three basic ways of fixing a hardware headphone jack
SanDisk holds no responsibility when attempting the procedure noted above. Do so at your own discretion.
