You could delete, partition and then run the recovery tool.
Read the PDF before you format anything tho!
I had a folder that got corrupted. The folder had various strange files in it. Read the previous post on deleting bad files but it was last posted to on Nov. 2007. Did the chkdsk thing and it got rid of all the files except one 0kb file named 'p'. Get an error message when I try to delete it "cannot find file p" or something to that effect. Tried in command line mode to manually delete the file and the directory. Unfortunately it was a 2 disc set, was able to delete one of the folders (disk 2) and all the files in the disk 1 folder except this "p" file. Don;t want to try to format because that would wipe out all the folders, "Photos", Music", "System", etc. My computer sees 2 drives when I plug in the Sansa. If I reformat the "partition" with the music file in it, how would I get the system files back on the player?
Help is needed.

OK what does image failed switch to recovery mode mean and how do i get there because my screen is frozen on my player and i cant go but acouple of hours with out it.
Good luck, I have still not gotten ann answer to my question. Finally got the rest of the albom deleted but still can't delete the "p" file. You can't use the recovery tool on Sansa e260, so thanks for the useless info about that. It seems very poor business not to have a system restore download to fix these problems. By the way, when is there going to be a firmare update to allow us of the 4Gb micro disks? I would appreciate any help with these items but won't hold my breath.
Dr. Phil, I found that when my screen froze, I had to take the back off the player and remove the battery. I then reinstalled it and things have been fine.
I dont know if you got my other email but go to SANDISK company web site click tech support call the phone number ask for help and they will help youwith know problemm it takes about ten min or so .you know if your on the right web siteif the backroumd color is red and white.sorry bout the spelling DR PHIL
For the corrupted files part, deletion may only temporarily fix the issue. If the database has been corrupted, it will require a format.. no way around it. It's a good practice to back up the files that you transfer as this can happen. Also where the content comes from plays a part in file stability. P2p files are notoriously corrupted and cause issues.
As for SDHC compatibility, this is only available for V2 players. V1's don't possess the ability to use SDHC due to hardware
As for Image failed, anything as far as the player is concerned, that mentions Load main image failed, (generally anything with Image) means that the firmware has become corrupt. To fix this, you must reflash the firmware in recovery mode.
Recovery mode for a V1 player is (while the player is off), activate the hold swtich by sliding the switch at the top of the player towards the headphone jack so that you see orange. Once done, press and hold the record button on the side of the player and connect to the computer keeping record held down.
To obtain the firwmare required to reflash, go to the sandisk forums and select the firmware appropriate for your player. Then simply extract it, and place the files into 16MB format (which is how the player will show up in the computer if properly placed in recovery mode). Then disconnect and you should be good to go.
*note V2 players do not have a recovery mode. If you are unable to force MSC and get the player recognized, you're pretty much SOL. Call Sandisk at 1-866-Sandisk and if your player is under warranty, they can replace it
Does anybody read the topic title, it says "e260", not V1, not the sansa connect, the E260. thanks for the responses but of course, no help at all from the company. Can't re-format, because there is no recovery utility for this model. Can;t re- image, becuase there is no recovery utility for this model. Is there a moderator here that can actually speak to someone at Sansa?
Oh well. Maybe this is why Apple sell so many more for such a higher price.
Zipper... you are aware that a V1 is a E200 right? V1=E200 V2=E200V2.. so yes, I did read the post.
And just so you know, the E200 DOES have a recovery tool... it's called Recovery Mode, as I outlined in my post above.
Formatting can be done from either Recovery mode (by creating the Sansa.fmt file), or by plugging your player in in MSC mode, right-clicking on it, and selecting format.
The one thing in your post i forgot to address however is the 2 drive letter bit.. This will happen because the player is having its flashdrive read, as well as having the card reader picked up by the computer, which all card readers will get their own drive letter. This commonly happens in MSC mode. If you want that to go away, switch your player to MTP mode
