A VERY good thing to have btw for your player. Don't ask me WHY, but my player has been operating even better since I downloaded this. No problems, no glitches, no headaches(geez I sound like a commercial)...lol!!

The Sansa Updater is an application that checks for the latest firmware updates then downloads and installs the firmware to your Sansa device. The Sansa Updater is NOT a firmware.

I updated my e280 using this and ever since random songs refuse to play and display "Bad Track"
It's made the player unuseable and I guess I now have to find a replacement, unless there is a way to undo the upgrade it did to the e280?
Yes you can perform a rollback. To do that, you need to download a previous version of the Firmware, then place the device into recovery mode (hold switch and hold the record button down, then connect to the computer. Once the player says "Welcome to Recovery Mode" on the screen, you can let go of the record button), then just drag and drop the firmware files onto the player (It'll show up as 16MB Format in your My Computer window). Disconnect and your good to go. Though bad track is normally indicative of a problem with the files themselves. Have you tried formatting and reloading the tracks?
