This is interesting:
"Samsung Electronics is considering buying U.S. PC and mobile memory card maker SanDisk, according to a Korean online report (Google translation of the story here), and then later confirmed by the company. After the report came out, Samsung spokesperson said: "We are looking at various opportunities regarding SanDisk (NSDQ: SNDK), but nothing has been decided yet." The story said Samsung had hired J.P. Morgan as the banker for these negotiations."

I just came across this.
Again very interesting.
Battered by a year of flagging prices for flash-memory chips and by an inability to get traction in sales of digital media devices, SanDisk (SNDK) may soon get scooped up by South Korean electronics giant Samsung Group.
SanDisk shares gained $4.18, or more than 31%, on Sept. 5 after Samsung said it's considering options for SanDisk that include an acquisition. SanDisk issued a statement that neither confirmed nor denied that a deal is in the offing.
Whole article here.

I hope they don't! I looked at Samsung players when I left the Zune camp but happily landed on the Sansa. Samsung seemed ok but felt cheap and I do not want to see the Sansa line cheapened out!
From what I have read...In October, Korea's Samsung Electronics withdrew its $5.85 billion unsolicited offer to buy SanDisk. Samsung cited various uncertainties regarding it.
