Hi all. I just got my Fuze, and was wondering.....all the estimates on number of songs, battery life, etc. are based on the 128 bps encoding. I, in my glorious newbie-ness, before I got my Fuze, uploaded a boatload of cd's into my computer at 192...thinking it would sound better. Now my sis tells me that you can't really hear the difference, so how big a difference is there in space, battery life, and can you really hear the difference? Sorry to write a novel for a first post Innocent

A lot of people say they can hear quite a bit of difference between 128 & 192 bps and not much after that. If you can't hear the difference though.

I wouldn't worry about battery life with 192, far as space goes unless you are at close to the 4GB I wouldn't worry about it either. If you do have a space problem you might try converting some of the songs, see if you hear a difference and not the file size before and after to see if it's worth it.

The Fuze sounds even better than I originally thought. I found a setting in WMP11 for syncing(which I can't find right now, probably because the Fuze is disconnected) and it had been at something sub-100...next time I charged up, I cleared the memory and set it to sync at 192 ....definite difference there. And battery life hasn't been an issue at all. I wish I'd had one of these years ago...hours and hours of music with no bad songs(with the proper loading of the player, of course), no having to change CD's, and I'm gushing on and on so I'll stop now...lol

The difference should be minimal. Providing that the 192's were tested in the same manner as the 128's (Example: volume, brightess of the screen etc) the difference between them should be no more than 3hrs. And that's high-balling it.
And no, the average listener really wont be able to tell too much of a difference. I majored in Audio production, and even when you know what your listening for, the difference is minimal

And since I don't have $500 headphones, or a high-end system, then I'm good either way. Next time I get new music then, I'll rip a few tracks both ways to compare....not going to redo the week's worth of stuff I already ripped at 192 though...that would be like work..lol
