So all my ripped CD's are 192 MP3, and the other day, to squeeze a few more songs in the internal memory, I changed the sync setting on WMP11 to 128. I didn't notice anything amiss, with my Sony MDR-V150's(listenable only with heavy EQ adjustments....not the best $15 I've spent), but I noticed when I was drag&dropping a podcast that the conversion WMP performed when syncing those songs wasn't just bitrate, it was from MP3 to wma. I haven't tried the Skullcandys yet....my ears  don't like earbuds too much. I've read that wma is supposed to do better at lower bitrates than mp3, I just wonder if I lost anything with the extra conversion. I didn't notice with casual listening, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask. It didn't faze the Fuze tho...lolWink

Edit: In trying to research this, I came across wma vbr...I know wmp11 can do it, but will the fuze play it, and sound good? I still have all my original 192 mp3's safely on dvd, but this would allow a lot more songs on the fuze...the above wma conversions still sound fine even on the skullcandy.

Speaking of earbuds. I have not found any I like. Of course I haven't tried the super expensive ones.

On the codecs, etc, there is a lot of info to absorb!

As far as earbuds....freq. response wise, the skullcandy are not bad.I can't speak to imaging, or the more esoteric measures, because I can't wear them for very long. For me to wear an earbud,  I would need one with a vent in it for the air, so the pressure doesn't bug my ears. If one exists that isn't super expensive, that would be great, but I'm not aware of any.

My solution to the codec issue....with WMP11, WMA VBR range of 85-145kbps. To my ears, the sound is better than my 192 MP3's, and they're roughly 60% of the file size. That said, I'm not re-ripping the whole archive, but the cd's that are in my regular rotation I am. I also think the MP3 rips I did in iTunes7.7 sounded better than the few I did in WMP, but that may be in my head too. Future cd's I'll probably archive on DVD's with MP3, (for the universal compatibility) and use this WMA VBR for my portable use.

You weren't kidding about the amount of info....every time I thought my mind was made up I would find a contradictory opinion. MP3 vs. WMA....that's one loaded Google searchWink
