I have never used Foobar, have limited experience with MediaMonkey, and have used Winamp frequently. Here's my take... MediaMonkey tries to be a lot like iTunes, but never felt as seamless to me. It aims to be a "total library solution."

Winamp, on the other hand, feels more like a "player" than a "media library" to me, although it has those features as well. I love Winamp because it's consistent, fast, and deliciously old-skool (as they still have the original skin available!). It also supports virtually every format I can think of, including tracker, midi, .XM, .SID, and other lesser-known formats. I really wish Winamp was available for Mac.

And for total media library management, I usually side with iTunes. I find that it's a good program on both PC and Mac.

Thanks for your thoughts Peter. I am giving Media Monkey a shot, given that a fair % of my music is in .wma format, which as I understand, iTunes wouldn't accomodate. However, I'm keeping iTunes in the system for now to get my podcasts. My biggest objection to it is simply that it's a system hog, at least on this aging PC...so for a while now I've only used it for the iTunes podcast directory. I just have to drag and drop the casts into my Clip or Fuze. But I'll certainly keep an open mind as far as Winamp goes, if I don't like MMonkey. Brandon C has also spoken well of Winamp in the past. Again, thanks!

Cool, let us know how MM works out for you. Since I have never had anything recorded in WMA I am unsure how iTunes handles it, but I am under the impression that it is not supported. I will agree that iTunes is also a system hog, depending on your system.

One way or another I think you'll have great luck with either program!

I must say it seems to work very well. I never had the ability to place podcasts directly into the "podcast" folder of my Clip & Fuze before unless I dragged and dropped individually...now, if multiple casts are all in, I can select them all and move them en masse ....very cool. It also seems to cope better than Media Player 11 with the size of my music library(which is admittedly much smaller than that of a torrent user, but still, 3910 files, 19.2 gb isn't too shabby, but I don't have to worry about answering the door only to be taken away by "the Man"). Plus, after X-mas, when I might be able to buy a CD here and there, I have more options now for encoding(FLAC, Vorbis, etc.) So at this point, I'm a happy Monkey user :o)

hi ther,
I bought my 4GB Sansa E260 about two montha ago and until recently have been ulling out my hair about what music management system to use: winamp, atunes, itunes, a combination of media player and juice anything to get my podcasts downloading and into the sansa in a simple manner. Media Monkey does this and, unless you really want to use to see you photos and video, it's free.

It has a great RSS reader/downloader which you can set up to clean feeds as it goes meaning you never have to worry about filling up your hard-drive, the Sansa was recognised straight away and it has all the eq capabilities you could wish for, as well as volume clipping (if you want it, personally I don't). copying across to the sansa is a simple drag and drop arrangement then a go function for the syncing.

Let's face it, until songbird comes of age, this is great system that may look a little like itunes, not a really bad thing, but you can play everything you want to. I'm hooked.
