What is the Audiobooks Folder for? I download audiobooks from the library using OverDrive Media Console and for the life of me I cannot get my ebooks into this folder.

The folders mystify me anyway. I would like to set up folder for my many books but that doesn't seem possible. I've tried it in WMA and from My Computer directly into Sansa. But when I download a book it just goes into Songs.

Can anyone help?

I have the same problem, did you ever figure it out?

I can understand your delima, but here's how to make your life painless when downloading audio for sansa.

I use my local library for all my FREE WMA downloads. The default for these downloads follow the path below automatically.

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\My Media\WMA Audiobooks

But you can use the Browse button and simply save to your desktop on the C:\ drive C:\Desktop

From All Programs select WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER. Once open click on Open then go to Desktop and your download. Select all files and press Enter. Now they are in WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER. Find these files in one of the folders and select and drag all the files into the download area.

Now plug in your Sansa and they will all be downloaded.

I've not used WMA, but here's how I do it for MP3's.

Step 1) Go to Settings > USB Mode and set it to 'MSC'. Get it out of the less powerful 'synch with player' option.

Step 2) Make sure your audio book mp3 files' tags are numbered. You can use MP3tag to auto-number them. Make sure the artist and title tags are correct, too. If you have a mis-tagged file, the OS will put it in the wrong place (either in 'Unknown', or I suspect the song list if the file isn't in a folder for your audiobook).

Step 3) Put your audiobook files in a folder and name the folder. Drag that folder and drop it into the 'Audiobooks' folder on the drive. Let the files copy, and while you're at it, recharge your battery.

Step 4) Profit from good audiobook experiences.

There are tons of public MP3 audiobooks out there, but a lot of people are lazy when it comes to writing tags. The Sansa clip OS seems to depend heavily upon these tags to organize and sort music correctly.

By trial and error, I figured this out! In OverDrive, select "transfer", then "next". You will then see all the parts of the book- do NOT select "next"! Notice that the path was Music. Instead select "advance options". Select "browse" and then "no"- you do NOT want to create a new folder in "music". In the "browse Portable Player" window, scroll to find "audiobooks". In my husbands Sansa clip it is above the music folder and in mine it is below it- go figure.... then select "ok" and "ok" again. And finally "next" and finish the transfer.... then enjoy your book

The process described by VNDA54 works just fine for audiobooks downloaded through OverDrive; they play as one continuous file from the beginning of the book to the end. The problem is that when I rip an Audiobook on CDs from the public library into Windows Media Player, it can be dragged-and-dropped into the Clip. However, the Clip does not play CD1 then CD2 then CD3. Instead, the Clip stops at the end of each CD in the book and I must navigate back to Music --> scroll to Audiobook --> scroll through all of the other CDs (from other books) until I get to the next CD in the book and then start it playing. This is difficult while walking or driving or digging in the garden. :) My old Creative Zen and newer MuVo both play an entire book through automatically from CD to CD to CD without stopping when drag-and-drop is used. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Guess what?  I just solved this today after 6 months of struggling!  It is easy!  I rip books on CD to WMP (Windows Media Player) and they always did exactly what you described.  Drove me nuts!  Try this: Rip your CDs as you normally would and then:  1) in WMP Library, drag and drop an entire book into "Create Playlist" (the screen on the right).  2) Rename the playlist to whatever you want (I do book title and author).  Note the playlist shows up on the top left of the screen under Playlists.  3) Repeat the process with as many books as you wish (I have a 4GB Clip), creating as many Playlists as you wish.  4) Click on the Sync tab at the top of the page.  5) Drag and drop your playlists onto the Sync column on the right.  6) Click start sync.  7) Amazingly, when you have sync'd a new folder will appear in your Clip titled Playlists; the books will also be loaded into your Music folder under Albums and Artists where you can listen one CD at a time.  8)Now: to PLAY the entire audiobook, start Clip, choose Music, scroll to and select Playlists.  Choose the book you wish to hear and start listening; all of that book's CDs will play in sequence properly without stopping.  Let me know if this works for you!  BTW, I have USB Mode (in Settings) set to "Auto Select"; I don't know if that makes a difference...

I have several books downloaded in the audiobook category. However, they are jumbled. The sections of the books do not stay in order under one area by book name. Is there a way to orgainze the books? What I see on the computer is not how it is organized on the Sansa Clip.
Thanks

I listen to Librivox.org audiobooks which come as MP3, regularly. I initially tried loading them into the "Audiobooks" Sansa folder but they were invisible there. I assumed that "Audiobooks" folder is for DRM protected files from Audible.com or etc. distributors (I think I recall Sansa promoting Audible.com at the time I bought the player.)

But I've had no problem whatsoever downloading and dragging the audiobook MP3 files into "Podcasts": they show up in that folder under the book title and play nicely in chapter sequence according to the file metadata.

Now and then one of the Librivox volunteers foul up the metadata, so that titles or the chapter sequencing is wrong, but they have administrators who will fix the files if the problem is indentified in the user forum. And those are problems that can be fixed at home.

I've learned from WMA music files and the MP3 audiobooks (Windows XP) that right-clicking a whole selection of files and going into the Properties > Advanced allows you to change the metadata for Title, Artist, etc. for the whole selection of files. That works great where ripping a CD creates anomalous results for one or more of the data fields, and also works for MP3 book chapters or other metadata if those are messed up.

Obviously that might not work if the audiobook is purchased from a commercial distributor in a proprietary format.

Hi
I opened the files I wanted to add in my windows explorer window.
Select the files you want to use, right click and select 'play with vlc'. Then in VLC - on each track, right click and select 'information'.
Usually the files that get dumped under 'unknown' has a LOT of blank metadate. I just fill in there - making sure that the stuff that I want to play together, has the same album title. then 'save' and 'close'.
Then I open another session of windows explorer, browse to my sansa disk, go to audiobooks or where ever I want the stuff.
And copy from the one folder to the other.
ta-da!!!
after several months of frustration, this is what finally worked for me!

What a fuss! and I'm no 'Geek' but a 64 year old granny!! Just rip the audio book cd's and then apply a programme called 'MP3tag' its brillent. all the cd's play in the correct order because it thinks all the tracks are on one CD. They are actually better in Music rather than Audiobooks as there is no 'play all 'feature in AB. In 'Music' they usually show 'Artist' ie Author so you can choose your Artist select play all and Voila a whole book in the right order without stopping. I would however kill for a 'Bookmark' feature which even my very old MP3 player had.
Good

My audiobooks section on my clip+ has 3 folders, with many mp3's in each folder. I can play these mp3's (as well as see the contents of the folders), on my sansa clip+. The firmware is 01.02.15A.

However, I cannot see them when I attach the clip+ to my windows (XP or 7): It shows the Audiobooks folder as empty (My Computer\MTP Device\Media). When I right-click on the audiobooks folder, the properties also shows it to be empty.

The files and folders from the audiobooks folder are not displayed under the 'music' folder either.

How can I display the mp3's in my audiobooks folder, on my computer? I would like to edit & rearrange the files. Thank you.

I've been trying to download with WMP for more than 6 months with no success. Plus,I think the manual didn't seem to provide enough info. Finally, I figured out a much easier and efficient way.
1. Insert audiobook in drive
2. Connect device and using Windows Explorer, open device, select audiobooks and create new folder.
3. Again using Windows Explorer, open audiobook, select all files drag/drop audiobook files to audiobook folder on device. Hopefully, I've described this accurately and you can use it. ttfn, kg
