I wish I could help but don't run Linux. Anyone else have an idea?
Categories: Sansa Clip / Clip +
Okay, so I recently got a Sansa Clip 2 gb. I synched it with my laptop a bunch, which runs on linux, and just did it in the nautilus file browser. No problems, except some of my songs skipped as though transferred incorrectly. I was going to put some more on today, and suddenly it wasn't recognized. There was no response in any mode, on my linux laptop or my XP machine. When I plug it in, it starts charging, but that's it. The MP3 player turns on when I plug it in. I tried it in all three modes (firmware 01.01.29A, has auto, MTP and MSC), and nothing on either system. So I formatted using the SanDisk's menu setting. Now it still isn't recognized and it has no songs on it. It turns on fine, and as far as it's concerned, it's working fine but songless. I know my usb ports and cable works fine, but I tested other cables and ports just to be sure. It's not recognized in Ubuntu or XP, at all, and the SansaDisk firmware utility thing won't completely install because I can't get past the step where you plug in your SanDisk, since it's not recognized at all. Any help would be appreciated, I would REALLY rather not have to toss this for this; there's gotta be a solution. I changed nothing and ejected it every time.
Well, multiple computers is normally the best way to test connectivity issues.
You can try powering it off, activate hold, press and hold the center button and connecting, but other than that, I'd say it needs to be RMA'd
I had the same problem, but I don't use a linux. You turn it off, and push the power up as if you were to turn it on, but hold it for a long time, until it starts after a long time. Some players and places you buy songs from may cause it. btw, whenever you have problems, just do that hold up the power for a long time (it's called restarting the device) I don't know if it deletes all the songs, cuz I didn't have any, but at least it will work, you can resync the songs.
my 2gb sansa clip will only turn on when plugged into a computer plz help going on big trip and i need it!!!!!
I bought my Sansa Clip+ three months and until the last week it worked like a dream. Now I can't turn it on at all. I've tried holding the on/off button but that hasn't worked.
When I plug it into my computer (XP) the comp recognizes it and I can faintly see on the Sansa display screen the icons indicating that it is charging. Normally after just a few minutes it gets charged up at least a little; enough to turn on and listen to a couple of songs. It won't do that now.
I've been trying to charge it for a longer period but then the faint display screen icons disappear entirely.
I've tried updating the firmware but it hasn't helped.

It's working now!
Here's what I did: I re-read the instruction manual and it said to INITIALLY charge it for at least three hours after you buy it. Well, since it was partially charged when I purchased it, I never fully charged it for that length of time. Whenever the battery would get low or the device would shut off I'd recharge it (it would recharge completely after about half hour, but perhaps the battery charge icon isn't an accurate of measure of whether its fully charged. I could well require a full three hours to fully recharge, at least initially.)
In any event:
I connected it to my computer and again could see faintly that the recharge icons were lit. It stayed like that for about an hour. I disconnected it and pressed the play button and could play music, though the display light was completely out.
I reconnected it again and after a couple more hours the display lit up like it did when I first bought it and it's now charging. I'm going to let it charge until it is fully recharged and shuts off on its own when its finished.
Hope this helps someone.

Unfortunately, yes, I have had that problem with two Sansa mp3 players--the first was a Sansa c250. After about a year and a half I had to twist the earphone wires around and keep the jack half way out to listen to anything. After a while even that didn't work and I couldn't hear a thing. The fit between the mp3 player earplug jack and the earphones was too loose. To the best of my knowledge nothing can be done to fix it, but try and see if tech support can help you out.
Try that before you spend money on new earphones. I thought the problem was with the earphones and wasted about $60 buying earphones, more than the cost of the Sansa Clip+
I've had a Sansa 2GB ClipPlus for about three-four months and now I am having the same problem with the earphone jack being too loose.
Try putting the earphone jack in all the way and then wiggle it around a bit. If it moves, or feel too loose then that is the problem. I'd return it to the store where you bought it. I really love so many features of the Sansa mp3 players but I'm getting annoyed.
