So, Lil Wayne tops the list for number of nominations with eight nods, Coldplay follows with seven, and Jay-Z, Kanye West and Ne-Yo come in third with 6 each.

So, hip-hop pretty much dominates this year, huh? Well, since this is MHO I'll politely disagree with The Recording Academy here with a mild.... WTF?!? Lil Wayne?! The "Lollipop" guy? I know that art is subjective, but c'mon, the guy that wrote: "She wanna lick the rapper, So I let her lick the wrapper" is up for Album of the Year? Not really a bad song, but this gets recognition while Katy Perry, in all her hotness, gets shafted with one measly Best Female Pop Vocal Performance? I wouldn't be so irritated if she got a few more nods for her stellar debut. Not even a Best New Artist, Mr. Academy? I mean, the Jonas Brothers got nominated in this category; not that I'm not a Jo Bro fan, but this is their third major label release.

Glad to see that Coldplay got some props for their album, Viva La Vida (or Death and All His Friends), which is probably one of their best releases by far. The single "Viva La Vida" is a brilliantly written account of Cristian crusaders, and well-composed (if you don't think they ripped it off-- read my other article). 

Kanye, good artist, glad to see him on the list, even if I do roll my eyes at his personal exclamations that often make headlines (TOTALLY unintentional, I'm sure, since he's such a modest man ;P). Jay-Z and Ne-Yo I am not familiar enough with to have a fully-formed opinion, but Jay-Z is a good rapper (for those who like rap) and Ne-Yo's "Closer" was played to the point that I wanted to rip my stereo from my dashboard, so someone must have liked it.
