I have an odd problem with my e280.  Whenever I plug it to my laptop (Vista) I can clearly see the two drive units (the SD card and the main machine).  I can access both but the music files on the main unit are nowhere to be seen.  I can do whatever I want with the SD card content.  The problem is with the main unit since I can not visualise any music file at all.  All the other directories are there and empty since I only use it for music.  But no music or album directory and no song title at all.

What the hell is happening here ?  Those files are clearly there since I can see them and play them straight from the player itself.  What am I supposed to do if I want to move, delete, rename any of those ?  BTW, the main unit is almost full ; could this be the culprit ?  I have tried to perform a chkdsk on it but it can't start.

Anyone has a clue ?  Thanks.

I have suddenly had and have the same problem. Exactly the same. Now when I plug my MP3 into the computer, instead of saying "connected" at the top of the MP3 screen, it says "Writing". I left it connected and on for over twelve (12) hours and it still says "writing". And I still can't reach the main unit's music. If you find an answer, please let me know and I'll do the same.

Turned the pc off and on and now the MP3 says "Connected"?

YES, I'M IN MSC MODE.

Yes, it HAS WORKED before - for months!

Is your main unit full (or close to that) too ?

December 23, 2008 3:34 PM updated: December 23, 2008 4:14 PM

No, the main unit is only half full. Oddly enough (and don't let this confuse you), when the MP3 is not connected to the pc, only the main unit songs are availble and the songs in the sd card are not!

Review: The main unit and the SD card both appear on the "My Computer" screen, but clicking on the main unit does not show any song folders and none of the songs are available.

Clicking on the SD card icon on the my computer screen shows all of the song file on the card and they are accessable.

The MP3 is in MSC mode.

This problem appeared suddenly after the MP3 had interfaced correctly with the PC
for many months.

The main unit is only half full of songs.

There are at least two of us experiencing the same problem. HELP!

Using Microsoft XP.
The main unit and the SD card both appear on the "My Computer" Screen, clicking on the SD card icon shows all the folders, but clicking on the main unit icon shows that it is empty. In fact it is almost half full of song folders.

The MP3 is in MSC mode.

The MP3 and the computer have gotten along for months until this happened.

Incidentaly, when the MP3 is not connected to the PC, only the main unit songs appear and are available!

Finally fixed the issue. Dont ask me how It ended up that way, but it appears that the folder containing all my music was set as "hidden" (I don't recall making that change...) But anyway, I just went in my control panel and then in the folders icon and setted the whole thing so that it also shows hidden files and folders (by default it is set to not show these). Once that was done, all I had to do was to right click the icon for the folder containing my music on the Sansa and under properties I just unchecked the hidden attribute and voilĂ  !!!
Hope it will help you guys !

Thank you, thank you, thank you!  How in the H did that music file become a hidden File?  Changed it from hidden and it showed up where it should.  Thank you..     Wallygator

As I said previously I don't have a clue how it ended there. But I think it might have happened the last time that the Sansa updater was run on that thing. I had problems completing the last update for the firmware and and had to restart the computer before it finished. Maybe this is what screwed up the whole thing...
God only knows.

Litte updat here : I just plugged it again and the damn folder was showing up as hidden and read only once again. Had to uncheck the little boxes again. Is this issue related with the player, vista or the firmware ? Anyone had to deal with this annoyance yet ?

Did it cause a problem or just show up that way? Windows has a weird way that shows read only for the folder but not the files in it.

Tired of waiting for your device to do what you need it to?

Did not really cause a problem since I setted it to show the hidden files from now on. Just had to do the right click and then uncheck the hidden attribute again. More of an annoyance than anything else. I'll keep you up if anything new happens.
