Here is what I would recommend.
1) Connect it to your PC in MSC mode: slide the hold/power switch down, the while pressing the center button, plug your Clip into your PC's USB port.
2) In Windows Explorer, find the Clip, right-click on it, and select Format.
3) In the "Format SANSA CLIP" dialog, check "Quick Format", then click on OK.
If that doesn't work then check out this post

I bought a SanDisk 1 GB Sansa Clip MP3 Player a couple weeks ago, and now when I turn it on it says "FAT is corrupted, Connect device to PC and recover FAT. Honestly I have no idea what FAT is D; I have connected it to my Mac OSX and it gives me this poppup telling me to restart my computer or press my start button for 15 sec! I did that, and I have no Idea what to do next.
I googled what to do but its just giving me bologna
( Im only 13 so take it easy on me with all the confusing stuff. I need to fix it before friday night... im going on vacation.
)
Sincerely, Steven :O
P.S. HELP ME! T_T
A FAT is a File Allocation Table. It essentially tells the system where your files begin and end on a drive. As to fixing your problem on a Mac, I couldn't say. But if you can get to the Format option under Settings, you might could try that. Though formatting your drive will require you to put your music back on the device.
Well, not being a techniphobe myself, I had the same problem and decided to look on the 'net'. Easy for me, just held in button on front (not sure if that is completely necessary though) and plugged in via USB - Windows 7 'said' you must format this device first so I did. I then loaded all my music back on and it works fine. Moral of the story? - search the web first and thanks to all who do try to help. Cheers.
