I have a Sansa Clip that I use exclusively for listening to Audiobooks downloaded from the publilibrary using Overdrive. All was well until yesterday. I turned the clip off and when I turned it on later, I got the following message:

"Obtain license by tranferring title using audiobook software."

The titles of each section flash on and then I get the message again, another title flashes, etc. Endless loop.

I tried deleted the book and then re-transferring. Same problem.

Has this happened to anyone else and, if so, how did you solve it?

Thanks in advance,

I'm having the same problem but only with the books I've downloaded in the past week. I still have books on my sansa clip that I downloaded a month ago and they play fine. Also, I can play the new books on my computer from both the overdrive application dashboard as well as the ones on my sansa clip if I use it like a flash drive and access them through windows explorer. So I suspect it's an issue with Overdrive but I haven't been able to figure it out. When I downloaded the books this last time I noticed I had to do a license/security update so I'm starting to think maybe it had something to do with that? I'm wondering if you have the same situation - perhaps at least it will narrow down where the problem lies.

Same situation. I seem to have corrected it for now. I went in to the device manager and deleted and reintalled my clip from there. It is working, but I haven't downloaded a new book in the past week, so could have problems again. Check your device manager.

I have the same problem. I have been in conatact with Sansa support but they don't seem to be able to resolve the problem. Here are all the things I tried:
- Format from Sansa CLIP
- Switch to MSC and format from Windows
- Upgrade the firm ware on the CLIP to V01.02.15A
- Upgrade Windows Media Player to 11.0.5721.5280
- Reset the CLIP to factory defaults
- Uninstalled Sansa CLIP from device manager
- Tried transfering with OverDrive
- Tried transfering with Windows Media Player
- Checked Media Rights Usage under Windows Media Player

I am about to give up and purchase another MP3 player, other than Sansa.

I found a fix on the forum below and it fixed the problem immediately. It's been over a year and a half since I did it so I don't remember exactly what I did, but I do remember following neutron bob's advice and I did have to switch my clip to MTP mode.

I've cut out the pieces of the discussion that I believe I ended up following below, but you might want to read through the full post to make sure I didn't miss something. Like I said, it's been a while since I did it.

Yes, delete the files and retransfer them to the Sansa using the Overdrive Media Console. The Sansa must be in MTP mode, and your coputer needs to have Windows Media Player 10 or 11 installed for the DRM transfers (secure WMA).

Hey there. With the Clip connected in MTP mode, open the Device Manager.

Right click on My Computer > Device manager.

Look for the wee yellow triangle of doom under Portable Devices. Right click on the Clip there, selecting uninstall. Then disconnect, reboot the computer, and let it stabilize. Then plug in your Clip. With a little luck, you'll see "MTP device recognized" pop up when it's plugged in.

The CLIP was in device manager but didn't have the wee yellow triangle.

I uninstalled anyway rebooted, then reconnected the CLIP. The device was installed in MTP mode.

Same problem, can't transfer DRM files.
