Hi, I received a sansa e280 for my birthday. When I opened the box, there was no CDs in it. I don't know if there's supposed to be some with it. Anyway... When I came to plug in my e280, my computer (a PC with Windows XP on it) didn't reconized it. I couldn't see it at all, and the e280 is not reloading at all. I cannotput music or anything in it. I'm just unable to find it! No icon on the taskbar, no more drives in My Computer.

I read a lot on the Internet about this sansa, but I couldn't find anybody that had the same problem then me. I tried to put the e280 in MSC and in MTP mode, but it doesn't changed anything. I also tried to format it, but it didn't worked. I downloaded sansa media converter too, but it couldn't help me. The only thing I can see that could be the problem is because I have Windows Media Player 11 instead of 10. Worst of all, when I came to download wmp 10, I had an error message telling me that this version is not working on my PC.

Now, with all the time I spend trying to fix the problem, the battery of my e280 is too low for the sansa to open...

Can someone help me, please?

Well... one thing I can tell you is that formatting it was probably a bad idea. I had a perfectly functioning e series Sansa, which upon formatting, became bricked. When you try to turn it on, does the blue circle light up but you only get a black screen? That is the death knell, or at least it was for me.

I'm guessing your original problem may have been that you were in the wrong mode - you were on to something when you switched from MSC to MTP. Did you try to do that before or after you formatted it?

One way or another, I would return it as defective and get a second unit. Attempt to switch it to regular "portable hard drive" mode, so it shows up as an attached media drive on your PC, right away. And make sure not to format it manually as that will almost certainly cause you some issues!

When I turn it on, the blue circle light up, and I have a message saying "Battery too low, system shutting down." and when I plug my sansa into my computer, sometimes the blue cirlce is lighten up, sometimes it flashes and some other times, the blue circle is turned off...

I don't think my problem was the MSC or MTP problem, because I changed the mode before formating it, and nothing changed.

I guess you're right. The only problem is that the shop is far away and I don't really have time to spend 4h to get a new sansa... It's even worst if I can resolve this problem by myself! Do you think there would be another way, maybe buying a battery, or some other things?

Thank you for your help

Are you plugging it into the back USB port on your PC, or to a front USB port or a hub?

Sometimes, for one weird reason or another, devices won't charge properly from a front port or a hub. Try plugging it directly into the back of your PC and let it charge overnight.

If it still doesn't work, you could have a bad battery.

I plug it into the back of my computer. The computer doesn't see the device and does not charge it.

I'll buy a battery just to be sure. Do you know where they sell some?

I would try searching online. You can probably get a generic battery for cheap, just make sure you get the right one. I have never ordered a replacement battery for a Sansa product.
