I've looked through the threads and cannot find my specific problem addressed so I'll ask here.

I can't turn my sansa view on, whenever I do, I'll get the logo but then the lock appears and then turns off. Even hooked up to the computer or wall it'll do this.

It won't go any futher than that. It just won't turn on.

Could someone tell me what's going on?
I really don't want to lose all my songs.

Thanks much.

i have the exact same problem. this is no solution and i will be monitoring this thread on how to fix it, but i have been able to get it to work by press really really hard on the case around the wheel and even opening up the case and pressing on the switch housing has worked. usually works to get it on, but i'll have to do it again or hold down on the case to be able to navigate the menus.

any ideas on how screwed i am on the warranty? i've had the thing for 1 1/2 years

Thanks for the slight ray of hope for my sansa.

And yeah I know the feeling. x/

I'll get back to you if that works. But I think when it comes down to that then the sansa is dead.
-Again, I'll get back to you.

I had the same problem with my Sansa View. Every time I went to turn it on the screen would show the lock symbol. I found that if I turned it on without being connected to the computer and then held the main function wheel in the up postion and let go I would get a message saying something about formating and then I pluged it into my computer while holding down on the button in the up postion it would then connect to the computer. I then transfered everything to my computer so I had a back up. After I disconnected it from the computer I still had the same trouble. I found that putting the swicth to the hold postion and then very gently moving it back to power sometimes made it turn on normal. I would always have to mess with the power swicth to get it to work. After talking to the tech people at Sansa they said the switch was bad on the player and I had to send it back to them for a replacement. It came with a one year warrenty and I have had it for six months. So I am waiting for them to send me a new player. I bought my Sansa View at Best Buy and purchased the extened warrenty from Best Buy for two years. When I took it back to the store they said they no longer carry the 16GB Sansa View that they only had the Sansa View 32GB. I thought about paying the little extra to have the 32GB View but they said it was on Backorder and it could be 10 weeks or more before thay got any so I just sent it back Sansa under their warrenty. I could have gotten a diffrent MP3 player at Best Buy but I really didn't like anything that they had and the ipods were way too expensive and didn't have the big screen like the View or the expandable memory.

Ugh, bad news. I can't really say if this technique works, though I'm sure it does.
About Easter of this year I was at my girlfriend's grandparents place for some time. I was given a chocolate egg but had no stomach for it then. In the same pocket I put the egg, was my sansa. After about an hour of the egg and sansa pressed up against my leg - obviously not chilled - the egg had melted into my sansa.
This hadn't any effect on it strangely enough til about a month before now. I opened up the casing and of course there was an enormous ammount of chocolate melted onto the frame and back of the sansa.

So now I'm wondering if there is anyway to identify the memory chip and maybe extract my music possibly putting it into another sansa or something? I'm probably a lost cause but damn that's a lot of music I don't want to lose.

If any info - please post.

you'll have to do it through the usb cable provided and store it on a computer or extrenal hard drive

I've already torn this thing apart, I don't know how to put it back together.

If that was it it would already be done.
