After I reinstalled my operating system (downgrade from Vista to XP), Windows couldn't recognize Sansa. After connecting, device said "Writing" then "Connected", but it was still not recognized and even not charging. I tried everything: updating firmware, changing USB connection to MTP/MSC, formating Sansa, uninstalling USB drivers. Nothing helped. Then I came accidentally on the solution. I installed Sansa Media Converter (can be downloaded from here: http://mp3support.sandisk.com/sansa/SMC ). Probably the Converter has some Sansa drivers included. Immediately after installing and launching program, Sansa was recognized and started working properly even when the USB was set on "Auto Detect". Hope this will help somebody.

THanks this worked great. What did you mean by the usb being set on auto detect?

I'm glad it has helped you.

You must go: settings -> system settings -> USB mode -> Auto Detect

But if you haven't changed it sofar, it should be set on Auto Detect automatically.

I had a similar experience with my Fuze. What solved the problem for me was loading Windows Media Player 11. After I loaded it the Sansa fuze was recognized in WIN XP, even with the USB setting on the Sansa set to auto-detect.....So the issue in XP must really have something to do with missing or outdated multimedia related drivers.

I had this issue as well, I did try the service related changes and it did not help.
HOWEVER what I did was this..
With fuse disconnected from the PC

Press and hold the power switch in the on position for 10 or more seconds

Release the power switch

Now connect the fuze to the PC and see if it lights up and charges

This happened on 2 of my fuzes and that was how I resolved this issue

Thanks bernielhat, I tried your hold for 10 seconds trick and it worked!

Thanks bernielhat, the 10 second trick worked for me too.

Wow - the 10second hold worked for me, too! Thank you, thank you! I was so afraid it was bricked - and I just can't afford a new one right now!

I was about to give up. I had run my fuze battery completely dead and couldn't get it to recharge - no recognition in "My Computer" (Vista) and nothing helped until I found the comment about holding the power switch for 10+ seconds. Thanks much - grazie mille! You fixed it, bernielhat!
