I have had my Sansa Connect for quite some time now. it was previously installed on another computer. Unfortunately, that computer crashed recently, and i was forced to get a new one. After relocating to several different states because of the military, I somehow managed to lose the cd and any installation hardware that goes with it. All I have it my USB cord and charger. Is there anyway for me to install it on the new computer? Also, I am unable to fix the "Recovery Needed" message on the main screen. I can't seem to get out of it and since my Sansa isn't installed on the computer, nor being recognized, I am unable to download any software to it. It is saved to my desktop, but I have no way of getting it transferred to my Sansa. Thanks for the help, guys.

Hello, it sounds like your Sansa's firmware or software is corrupted in some way. It sounds like it might be stuck in "Recovery Mode."

I would try using the Recovery Tool that can be found here:

http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/863

Apparently, in some cases, the Sansa recovery tool won't work. In that case, you can see this thread on the Sansa forums for more details on how to recover the Connect without the tool (much more complicated, but it's reputed to work)

http://forums.sandisk.com/sansa/board/message?board.id=connect&thread.id=2515

Once you get the player recovered, you should not need any software from the installation CD that came with the device... Windows should recognize the device automatically. Depending on whether you are in USB (regular disk) or MTP (media transfer) mode, you can either drag and drop music right to it, or sync through Windows Media Player.

The Recovery Tool download doesn't work for some reason. Once downloaded and saved to my desktop, I try to run it, and it pops up with some weird error message and cancels on me.

The pop up error that comes up is:

DPInst result: [-2147483648]:

What the hell is that? It comes up twice and then the installation window closes on me....I am really starting to hate this damn device.

I've never heard of or seen that error before, very strange! That is an issue with the software, of course, and has nothing to do with the Connect.

I do know, based on reading the forum threads I found (and posted here) that the recovery tool has worked for many people.

Try running the recovery tool on any other PC's you have access to to see if it is an issue inherent with the downloaded file or your specific PC.

If the same error occurs on multiple PC's, try re-downloading the file, it could have gotten corrupted upon download (although this is unlikely.)

If all else fails, I would contact SanDisk support directly (Sansa Community is not owned or operated by SanDisk themselves)

Hope that helps, let us know if you can make progress!

I have a Sansa Connect 4GB, and it is not working at all. The screen is black all the time even if I hold the power key for 10 seconds. I tried downloading and installing the Sansa Connect Recovery Tool too. The file download properly, but halfway through the installation process, an error message pops up saying exactly: "DPInst result: [-2147483648]: ' and after this when I click on the "OK" button twice the window shuts down and installation process ends. I don't know what to do with this, and the most sad part is, I just bought it a month ago!

Bump, just got a sansa connect and the same thing happens to me. Also another small problem, whenever i plug it into the wall-outlet the sansa restarts over and over and then turns off saying low battery
