It seems like you might just want to put the View in USB mode rather than MTP mode. That way, it won't sync anything automatically - you simply drag playlists/folders/files directly to the player. That's what I do with my Clip. I don't have a View so I can't tell you offhand how to switch modes, but the manual should tell you how.
Let us know if that works!
I've got about 7 gigs of MP3 stuff on my Hard Drive. Problem is that every time View hooks up to it, all 7 gigs are downloaded instead of the songs for the first playlist I created (Union Station). I also cannot seem to be able to delete files in the Library (main machine from WMP. So far, I've re-formatted my Sansa View twice in attempts to get one play list (Union Station) on the View with only the Alison Krause songs that I have.
Anybody point me in the right direction. Have read the manual 4 times!

I just did a search of the entire View manual. Neither MTF mode or USB mode was found. Searching for USB alone returned several hits, but none describing any mode.

When I plug in the USB port with the View attached to the other end. Windows burps at me that it recognizes the new hardware.
When I click on My Computer, the View shows up as "Sansa View".

Ok, you should be able to drag and drop music/videos/playlists/etc directly to it then, without syncing with any software.
Looking back at the thread, I forgot to tell you that I was in Widows Media Player when the machines automatically and immediately start synching. As you say, I can use Explorer to drag and drop files to the View, but then how is a Playlist constructed on the View? All the documentation talks about is using WMP to do the job (and a WMP that is obviously an earlier version than the current version that I have - screen titles and options not exactly the same).
Very frustrating, and once I figure out this, I have to figure out how to D/L a podcast!!
