My Civic has a usb connection but my clip+ is not recognized. How did you get the car radio to redognize your player in the first place?

I have a Clip that I have been using in my car. I have a mini-USB car charger to keep it charged, and the audio output goes to the car stereo's aux input.
This system worked fine for several months. When I turned on the car, power was applied from the USB charger, and the clip turned on and started to play from wherever it last stopped. When I turned off the ignition, the Clip shut down after a short time (Auto Power Off mode).
Recently, the Clip started going into "Connected" mode whenever the charging cable is connected. There is no computer present - only the power (+5) and Ground signals are used on the USB charger.
What could have changed in the Clip to cause it to interpret simple charging power as being connected? What can I do to solve the problem?
Thanks!
From the Clip manual, page 6:
"The battery can also be charged using an AC adapter (not included) or a car adapter
(not included) and you will be able to play your device while charging with one of the
adapters. "
He didn't. He simply plugged his device into the car stereo via its AV jack and the player's headphone/line out. He's only using USB for charging the device.
I was wondering too how well this setup works, as I might go out and buy a cigarette lighter/USB adapter.
As for the problems that were encountered, my guess is that maybe you switched to/from MTP mode in the device settings. Try changing the setting and see if that fixes it.
