Just wanted to pop in and say that I installed Rockbox on my Sansa Clip (v1) today and it worked wonderfully.  It solves a lot of annoying issues, seems to work faster, has full EQ settings, and I LOVE the folder navigation feature.  Note that the Rockbox site says that it's "unstable" so it doesn't come with any guarantees, but it's working great for me so far.

Details here:

Download the Sansa Clip v1 firmware here:

I used the automatic installer on Mac OS X, worked great, get it here:

Have you tried Rockbox? Do you like it?

I'm waiting for it to become stable. Shouldn't take a whole lot longer as the Clip and Clip+ (what I own) are popular players.

My Samsung YP-S2 however is unlikely to ever be supported. :(

Hi there,

Just wanted to say that I was having major problems with a clip+ and using it with Mac OS X/ latest Imac i7. I followed all the guidelines for reformatting, updating firmware etc and just could not get it to play mp3 files. At one point I thought I had completely ruined it as it wouldn't recognise anything I copied over. I also had the problem of ._ being added to start of filenames. I tried using Blue Harvest as a way to keep filenaming/resources pc friendly but to no avail.

I came across this post from Peter and followed his instructions installing RockBox and boom! It works again and on files I just could not get to work.

If in agreement maybe this instruction from Peter should be added as a way for Mac users to be able to play nicely with their Clip +, lots of people are posting about it on various sites but this is the first 'complete' solution I have found so it deserves to have attention brought to it.

Thanks Peter ;-)

You're very welcome! I'm still using my Clip with Rockbox and it has never failed to work or sync properly.
