SanDisk acquires MusicGremlin

From: Engadget Quite a bit of time has elapsed since we last saw fit to mention MusicGremlin on these pages, but the long-lost outfit has found itself relevant again thanks to SanDisk. Announced today, the latter firm has acquired the former, and we're told that the acquisition will (expectedly) fall under the Sansa audio / video business unit. According to Daniel Schreiber, general manager and senior VP of the aforesaid unit, MusicGremlin's "digital distribution platform and capabilities will provide SanDisk with adaptive and innovative technology that will play a key role in the development of future Sansa products for consumers," though he didn't elaborate much beyond that. To be frank, we have some serious respect for the Sansa line as-is, so we're quite interested to see what impact (if any) this will eventually have on the crew we've come to know so well. “MusicGremlin’s digital distribution platform and capabilities will provide SanDisk with adaptive and innovative technology that will play a key role in the development of future Sansa products for consumers,” said Daniel Schreiber, general manager and senior vice president for SanDisk’s Sansa audio/video business unit. SanDisk kills TakeTV

From Engadget : Here's a sure sign of unpopularity: SanDisk stopped selling its TakeTV device, and shut down TakeTV's Fanfare content portal , on May 15th... and nobody noticed. Originally inspiring fond sentiments with its sneakernet approach to getting videos from your computer to your PC, SanDisk's TakeTV just never got much traction. Faced with competition from the likes of Microsoft and Apple -- not to mention the oodles of networked devices that offer up more content and more convenience which have been cropping up recently -- we'd be surprised if TakeTV sold enough units to fill a briefcase. Anybody out there have any fond memory's of TakeTV's short stint?

Sandisk has just released a new firmware for the Sansa Clip. It is now version 1.01.29 in the sansa updater 1.083. What's new in this version? Here are the release notes. Release notes for Sansa Clip Version 1.01.29 Issues addressed: 1) Fixed occasional early expiration of Rhapsody Licenses. 2) Battery indicator is now much more linear with Play time remaining. 3) Fixed a bug in FF/ REW of Long VBR MP3 files. 4) Fixed Genre can appear two times depending on the Tag encoding. 5) Device highlights "Play Previous" after returning to Music from FM playback. 6) Fixed bug with maintaining Custom EQ setting / volume level after power cycle. 7) After FM Autoscan, device will return to FM tuner display. 8) Bug fixes relating to deleting files on the device.
